  9. Neue Schule Tranz Angled Lozenge Jumper's Choice - 8023RD
    £129.54

The Neue Schule Tranz Angled Lozenge Jumper's Choice/Ride & Drive is a lever bit which offers extra lift from the shoulder and increases control without discomfort or severity. This clever cheek also reinforces directional control and turning, and stabilises the mouthpiece ensuring the correct contact points are employed at all times when rein aids are applied. The NS Tranz Angled mouthpiece is ergonomically designed for both comfort and communication. The rounded lozenge is set on at a unique 20° angle, activating more feel over the tongue. When a contact is taken, the lozenge rolls gently down contouring smoothly over the tongue's thicker less sensitive centre (the sweet spot), utilising feel but not abusing it, thereby enabling clearly defined aids to be given through the reins. The arms are slightly curved for comfort and of an oval profile. This clever design takes up less room between the tongue and upper palate whilst offering a similar weight bearing surface from the horse's perspective as thicker, more obtrusive circular profile mouthpieces. This ergonomic design very subtly depresses the whole of the tongue and the oval profiles help to create a larger upper airway, enhancing the horse's ability to breathe and swallow.

This bit is very popular with jumpers as it encourages the horse to sit on it's hocks, helping with tight, accurate turns. It's also recommended for horses which snatch down or pull the rider forwards. The inner rings act as a softening buffer through the rein so that riders with weak backs or arthritis will usually find this bit to be a great benefit. This bit is also a great choice for a driving bit when a Liverpool is not compulsory. It's one of the few designs of bit to provide extra directional control without having fixed cheeks.

  10. Neue Schule Demi-Anky Universal - 8012U/8013U
    £129.54

The Neue Schule Demi-Anky Universal is ergonomically designed to eradicate the nutcracker action and consequent evasions often caused by the traditional, straight-armed single-jointed snaffle. It offers control without discomfort or severity, and is ideal for faster work and jumping as it allows the rider to turn and direct the horse more easily.

The cleverly curved mouthpiece of this bit eliminates interference with the upper palate and prevents the bit from lying too far forwards in the mouth. Traditional jointed bits can pinch the sensitive outer edges of the tongue as they travel forwards in the mouth but the Neue Schule Demi-Anky Universal has been redesigned to ensure that the bit sits correctly, further back in the mouth over the less sensitive area of the tongue. The ergonomic design of this mouthpiece sweeps away from the corner of the lips reducing the risk of rubbing, while offering a superb weight-bearing surface across the bars. Once the horse establishes a correct contact, the bit shape forms a long low shape over the tongue providing relief to the sensitive outer edges.

The Neue Schule Demi-Anky Universal features a uniquely designed gag cheek based on a traditional three ring gag. In a traditional three ring gag, the rings sit parallel to one another; in contrast the Neue Schule Demi-Anky Universal features an angled main ring which sweeps away from the face to prevent the cheek from becoming compressed against the teeth.

The cheek is very well balanced and allows for multiple rein combinations. The cheek can be used with single or double reins and can also be used with Pelham rounding. If the bit does not provide adequate control, a curb strap can be employed from the top ring of the cheek to reinforce turning and control without restricting the horses ability to stretch on his way into a fence.

    Available from 5" - 6"; mouthpiece thickness either 16mm or 18mm

Levers & Gag Bits

Choosing the correct bit for your horse can be a nightmarish task, with so many things to consider when selecting the correct one. When you do find one and then after a while it isn't performing as you hoped, or you are in need of a new bit for whatever reason, picking a new one can be even harder. Online for Equine are bitting specialist and have collated a large number of different bit types to help you find the one you need.

In cases where you have previously used a snaffle bit and have found that you do not have the levels of control over your horse that you need or desire, it can be quite difficult to know how to move forward. The assumption that a stronger bit is the answer is misguided and can do more harm than good, a gag bit is a popular option for those in this situation.

A horse gag bit works by putting pressure on alternative part of the mouth to control the horse as oppose to put increased pressure on areas where the existing bit operates; this can actually cause oral damage and cause your horse great discomfort. This allows you to have an enhanced level of control so that you have to use less rein pressure than you currently use to get a response. By choosing the correct fit of gag bit or lever bit, the rider can improve the level of control they have over their horse without causing oral pain and damage. Far too often, the desire to remain in a snaffle can result in oral damage as riders find they have to use large amounts of pressure to gain a controlled response.

If you have any questions in regards to the bit gags or lever gags we have on offer, please do not hesitate to contact our team and speak to our bitting expert.
