A breakaway feature only works if it's kept clean and functioning, so check hook-and-loop release points regularly for dirt, hair and general wear, and replace a headcollar once the release panel is worn or no longer gives way as it should.

No breakaway design can guarantee release in every situation, so use your judgement around particularly strong, sensitive or high-energy horses, and never leave any headcollar, field safe or otherwise, on a horse you can't check regularly.
