Hoof Boots

Hoof boots fit over the hoof to give it protection that a horseshoe alone can't, whether that's for a barefoot horse out hacking and turned out on stony or hard ground, or for a shod horse recovering from an abscess and needing a poultice kept clean and dry.

This collection brings together genuine hoof boots, both the everyday protective kind and the poultice/medical kind, so you're not searching through our wider boots & bandages range to find them.

If it's hoof oils, dressings or conditioners you're after rather than a boot, our hoof care range covers everyday hoof maintenance instead.

Everyday Protective & Riding Hoof Boots

For barefoot horses, or those transitioning out of shoes, a well-fitted hoof boot gives sole and wall protection for hacking, schooling and turnout on ground that would otherwise be uncomfortable.

Cavallo's range covers this most thoroughly here, from the Simple Boot and Sport Boot through to the Trek and Big Foot models for different hoof shapes and workloads, alongside the Equine Fusion Active Jogging Boot, Waldhausen's Hoofboot, and the Acavallo Anatomic No Turn Gel Hoof Boots. Between them there's a genuine choice of closure style and sole thickness, so it's worth checking each product's fitting guide and measuring your horse's hoof width and length before ordering, since a boot that's too loose can rub or twist and one that's too tight can restrict the hoof.

If you're transitioning a horse out of shoes or aren't sure which size or style suits your horse's hoof shape, your farrier is the best person to ask.

Poultice & Medical Hoof Boots

These boots are built to keep a poultice or dressing clean and in place while a hoof abscess or wound heals, rather than for everyday riding.

The Woof Wear Medical Hoof Boot is a longstanding favourite here, with a grooved sole for grip and an asymmetrical zip for a close fit that can be worn in the stable and, if your vet is happy with it, during supervised turnout.

Shires' Breathable and standard Poultice Boots, the Hoof-It Poultice Boot and Bitz Poultice Boots are simpler, budget-friendly designs for the same job, and the Veredus Magnetik Hoof Boot adds targeted magnetic therapy for horses your vet feels could benefit from it.

None of these boots treat or cure a hoof condition on their own; they're designed to support the healing process by protecting the area, so always follow your vet's or farrier's advice on treating an abscess or hoof injury.

Getting the Fit Right

A hoof boot that doesn't fit is worse than no boot at all, so measure your horse's hoof at its widest point and length from toe to heel with the hoof freshly trimmed, then check that measurement against each brand's own size chart rather than assuming sizes match across brands.

Check the fit again after a few uses, since a hoof's shape can change slightly as a barefoot transition progresses, and inspect straps and soles regularly for wear.
