Description
Leather draw reins from Whitaker with a durable elastic insert and brass hardware, giving a little give rather than a fixed, unyielding contact. Draw reins are a training aid used to encourage a horse to work in a more rounded outline, and should always be used with care, alongside direct reins rather than in place of them.
They're best used for short periods under the guidance of an experienced rider or instructor, never as a quick fix for a horse who needs to build genuine strength and way of going over time. Used correctly, they can be a useful schooling tool; used incorrectly, they can cause more harm than good, so if you're new to draw reins it's worth getting some hands-on guidance first.
