Nikwax Tech Wash
Nikwax Tech Wash is a specialist cleaner developed for waterproof, windproof and technical outdoor clothing. It removes dirt and detergent residues while helping to restore the fabric's existing Durable Water Repellency (DWR) and revive breathability, helping your clothing perform as it should in wet weather.
Unlike conventional laundry detergents, which can leave behind water-attracting residues, Nikwax Tech Wash is designed specifically for technical fabrics. Regular cleaning can help prevent the outer fabric from becoming saturated, often referred to as "wetting out", which can significantly reduce breathability and leave clothing feeling damp or clammy inside.

Why Use Nikwax Tech Wash?
Dirt and conventional washing detergents can interfere with the water-repellent finish on technical clothing. When the outer fabric starts absorbing water, breathability can be reduced and moisture vapour becomes less able to escape from inside the garment.
Nikwax Tech Wash cleans away these contaminants while revitalising the garment's existing water-repellent treatment. This helps water bead on the surface rather than soaking into the outer fabric, supporting both waterproof performance and breathability.

How to Use Nikwax Tech Wash in a Washing Machine
- Shake the bottle thoroughly before use.
- Remove any detergent build-up from the washing machine detergent dispenser.
- Place a maximum of two garments in the washing machine.
- Use 150ml in medium or hard water areas, or 100ml in soft water areas.
- Wash on a 30°C synthetic cycle using a slow spin.
For stubborn marks, undiluted Tech Wash can be applied directly to the affected area before washing. Do not use conventional detergent alongside Tech Wash.
How to Hand Wash
- Wear suitable gloves.
- Immerse one or two items in approximately 7.5 litres of warm water.
- Add 150ml in medium or hard water areas, or 100ml in soft water areas.
- Agitate thoroughly to mix and clean the garment.
- Rinse three times using clean water.
Drying
If you are planning to apply a waterproofing treatment after cleaning, do not dry the garment first. Otherwise, air dry or tumble dry on a low setting where permitted by the garment care label.
When Should Waterproof Clothing Be Reproofed?
Regular cleaning with Nikwax Tech Wash can help maintain the existing water-repellent treatment, so waterproof clothing does not necessarily need to be reproofed after every wash. Nikwax advises that regularly maintained garments may typically be cleaned around five or six times before additional waterproofing is required. If water no longer beads on the fabric after cleaning, it may be time to apply a suitable Nikwax waterproofing treatment.
