Lunging Equipment
Lunging is a great way to exercise and train your horse without the weight and restriction of a rider. It allows you to assess and improve your horse’s way of going, improve rhythm and balance and when done correctly is a very valuable training tool.
Lunging equipment includes either a cavesson or bridle, a roller, lunge line and lunge whip. Your choice of lunging aid depends on your horse’s level of training and how it needs to be worked; the roller then allows your lunging aid to be attached and adjusted.
Keep in mind that lunging should only be carried out if you have the experience and knowledge to undertake it correctly – excessive or incorrect lunging of horses can have detrimental effects and has the potential to cause injury.
