What's the difference between jodhpurs and breeches?

Jodhpurs are full-length, stretch trousers designed for riding, traditionally worn with short boots (jodhpur boots or paddock boots). They are usually made from a comfy, slightly stretchy fabric with good coverage and are thicker than riding tights. You can wear jodhpurs with long boots or jodhpur boots and chaps, but some riders find them uncomfortable and bulky around the ankle area. Some more modern jodhpur designs feature a stretch ankle panel for a slimmer, comfy finish and to counter-act this issue.

Breeches are designed with a shorter leg, typically finishing above the ankle, with a contoured fit and are designed to be worn with long riding boots. Modern designs will feature a soft, stretchy panel to the lower leg for comfort. Breeches are usually made from a stretchy but supportive fabric with better coverage than riding tights. They are a more popular, on-trend choice than jodhpurs, with a wider range of options including fleece-lined and/or waterproof styles and lightweight, breathable options for summer riding.
