Wicking: does the fabric wick away moisture effectively?
Fit: does the base layer fit comfortably against your skin?
Seams: does it have a seamless structure to prevent rubbing?
Odour control: look for natural or man-made anti-bacterial properties which will either absorb or help eliminate odours
Durability: tougher fabrics will keep the base layer looking smart for longer
For summer, shop base layers, made from a thinner material with a zip neck for ventilation or a lower collar design. Short sleeve designs are a cooler option for hot weather.
If you need a warm base layer for winter wear, look for thicker, brushed fabrics for thermal properties, high collars and full sleeves.
