The Neue Schule Waterford Nelson Running Cheek Gag is used for strong horses which lean on the bit or snatch the reins to evade the rider's aid, giving more control over the shoulder and preventing horses from grabbing onto the mouthpiece. The Nelson full cheeks help to reinforce directional aids which is useful for fast work and for jumping accurate fences such as skinnies or corners.
Neue Schule have redesigned the classic Waterford mouthpiece with LipSMART lip rests to help eradicate rubbing to the sensitive corners of the mouth. The NS Waterford mouthpiece is also slimmer to make it suitable for all mouth types.
Worn with running gag cheeks this bit has a two rein option, allowing the rider to have varying degrees of control depending on the circumstances. The rider can differenciate between the snaffle rein and the running cheek which provides poll pressure. The running cheek rein maximises control and lift from the shoulder.
The Waterford Nelson Running Cheek Gag is fantastic for use during faster work such as cross country jumping but should only be employed by knowledgeable riders as misuse of this strong bit has the potential to cause oral damage.
