“Bits can only do two things… create evasion or create relaxation. Everything else is up to the rider.”

Myler offer four different mouthpiece types which have been designed to assist the horse through his training and learning process, aiding the rider and enabling more effective control. Unlike traditional bitting, the Myler system works on the principle that, over time, horses learn and adapt to their bit - therefore the bit has to be changed to accommodate and positively reinforce this learning process.

Myler bits reinforce the horse’s learning process by offering tongue relief when the horse establishes the correct way of going and responds to the riders’ aids correctly. The Myler mouthpieces offer differing levels of tongue relief and this needs to be accounted for when selecting which mouthpiece to use.

The Myler mouthpiece system works so that if the horse demonstrates resistance to the bit over a period of time, it is usually indicative that he is ready to move up to the next mouthpiece (this is only once the horse has become established with the mouthpiece currently being used). If the horse is generally resistant in his disposition, you may wish to start him with a lower level mouthpiece and progress back up gradually once his ability and understanding of training improves.

It is important to note that no bit will replace correct training and although Myler bits will assist with the correct training of a horse, they are in no way a replacement for a knowledgeable and effective rider.
