The jointed mouth Pelham horse bit by Dever has a single jointed mouthpiece which acts on the bars but also the palate of the mouth when pressure is applied as with a regular nutcracker action bit. The jointed mouth Pelham is often selected for use in horses that would benefit from a double but have limited space in their mouth. The jointed mouth Pelham is also useful and frequently used in horses that lower their head and become strong as the Pelham has an elevating effect helping the rider to lift the horse into the correct outline. This bit features rubber covering on the mouthpiece offering a warmer feel in the horse's mouth, promoting easier acceptance. This bit is often selected in more sensitive horses.
The Dever Pelham horse bit is designed to be used in conjunction with two reins. This enables the rider to use the Pelham as a regular snaffle but if and when required, pressure can be applied to the second rein to increase curb and poll pressure helping the Pelham to come into effect. Pelham bits may be used with Pelham roundings but this defeats the object of having individual control over the mouthpiece and can lead to horses becoming un-responsive.
?The Dever Pelham horse bit is made of a stainless steel that is rustproof with a rubber covering; please check the covering before and after every use as rubber does naturally wear with frequent use. It is also supplied complete with a curb chain and is available in a variety of widths.
